Darren and Jenn

Hello. We are Darren and Jenn. We live in Brooklin Ontario, and have been married for six years. Darren is a District Manager for HSBC Finance, and Jenn is a Secondary School Teacher for the Durham Board. We have a pet cat named Monet who is wonderful with children, although we aren't sure how she will handle the competition!

We keep busy spending time with our family and friends. Darren has three brothers and one sister, and Jenn has one brother and two sisters. Between all of our siblings that makes ten cousins for our Lienna to play with. One thing is for sure and that is we'll always have a babysitter! Darren enjoys golfing, reading, playing video games and watching television. Jenn enjoys scrap booking and gardening. We both like to travel and have managed to get in a lot of it before the arrival of our new addition. Some memorable vacation spots have been Cuba, Dominican, Mexico, Florida, Alberta, Texas, Germany, and Prague. China is an adventure we are definitely looking forward to.

This process has been an amazing adventure, filled with anticipation and excitement. It has been the little things like choosing a name for our daughter or decorating her room that has help to pass time. After much debate and looking through almost every baby name imaginable, we finally found the right name. Her name will be Lienna (in Chinese, Lien means lotus flower). The summer project was to decorate Lienna's room, and we decided to write a story about our baby and her journey which was painted around her room. The story is as follows: Once upon a time in China a lotus flower blossomed and became a gift born in our hearts. The love of two people brought her to a new beginning in a new world. The beauty of the flower filled those around her with warmth and happiness. May all her dreams come true, and may she live happily ever after.

We have wanted to have children and complete our family for a long time, and are very excited that this dream will come true in just a few more months. We have made it this far with the love and support of our family and friends. We are happy to share this journey with the people in our group, and cannot wait for the referral to arrive (hopefully an early Christmas present).

Darren and Jenn are very pleased to announce their newest addition... Lienna Mei! See our referral page for more info.

Sandy & Hector

For a very long time now we had wished to become parents and have a family. After attending information sessions where we heard from many people how they created their families through adoption from China, we made the decision that this was for us. After the long paperwork process it is finally looking like the end is in sight. We are very much looking forward to travelling to China to bring our daughter home. To occupy our time during the waiting period we are reading as much as we can on China and adoption, and have been busily preparing the baby's room and trying not to buy too much clothes and toys - not with very much success!

Our entire extended family is very excited about our future daughter. Sandy's mother as well as Hector's mother and father are thrilled about being grandparents. Everyone will have to draw straws for first dibs on babysitting nights! We want to thank all of our family and friends for being supportive and understanding throughout this incredible experience.

Both of us love the outdoors, camping and hiking. We also like to travel and have been to many places in the world but China will be a first for us both. We love the challenge of different languages and experiencing the diversity of different cultures. We hope to provide every opportunity for our child to connect with her Chinese heritage. We will also embrace the language, culture and heritage ourselves so that we can truly become a Chinese Canadian family. We are currently engaged in Mandarin classes (very challenging!) and hope this is helpful when we travel. Dim Sum Sundays is rapidly becoming a family tradition. :)

We are hoping that the time will now go by quickly and we will soon be together as a family.

Sandy and Hector are very pleased to announce their newest addition... Margaret MacKenzie Yi Yi! See our referral page for more info.

If you read Style at Home magazine, you'll see our home featured in their September Issue which is out on August 8. ( I guess we'll have to wait until August 11!) Steve works for a sister company to the Toyota Motor Company called Toyoda Machinery as a Project Manager for their automation systems. He loves to play hockey and tennis, where Nora loves walking, running and baseball.

Our new daughters name is Tessa Brynn Lian.

Tom & Norma

We are Tom and Norma, just new to Calgary. Tom's roots are in AB, while Norma's family is in NB. We also have wonderful friends scattered from the east to west coast, and as far north as the Yukon. Everyone is excited and eager to meet our daughter, and we are so thankful for such great support.

We have led busy lives, working and playing in Vancouver, before we met just 6 years ago. Although late to become parents, we are finding having the necessary patience in this waiting game one of the greatest challenges. Together, we enjoy many outdoor activities, with family and friends. We have each traveled for fun and work, and are looking forward to exploring some of China while we are there to bring our daughter home.

Tom and Norma are very pleased to announce their newest addition... Kira Ting Ting! See our referral page for more info.

Tom & Suzanne

We are Tom and Suzanne from Northern Nova Scotia. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first daughter (or son?). Adopting a baby is a dream that we've both shared since we were married ten years ago. Our families and friends are excited at the prospect of us becoming parents and share our anticipation of our new arrival. The jury is still out on Molly's (our pooch's) enthusiasm at becoming a big sister and not an only child but we're sure she'll fall in love with her new sibling just as quickly as we already have.

Our process began on October of 2004 and we can hardly wait for the day we get to hold our baby (Hopefully in early 2006). It's hard to put into words how grateful we are to everyone in our lives who have shown support by asking for updates and expressing their excitement about our journey. All of the great travel advice and parenting tips have been helpful and we can't wait to put them to good use. Check back to this site often for updates on our progress as we get closer to our big trip!!

Our second group referral has come in! Tom and Suzanne are very pleased to announce their newest addition... Jenna Xuan Shuo! See our referral page for more info.

Willie and Vanessa

We are the Hu Family from Calgary, AB. We have been married for 6 years and have wonderful 4 year old twin girls named Emma and Ashley. We are both originally from Edmonton but have been in Calgary for about 15 years. Both of our parents moved to Calgary around the time we were expecting our girls. We have been very fortunate in the family support we have received since having our girls and continue to receive in our journey to bring home our new daughter.

We have talked about adopting a child from China since before we were married and when we felt it was time to add to our family we knew this was the way we should do it. We are all very excited to meet our daughter and complete our family.

Willie's parents were born near Shanghai, China and so we have requested a child from an orphanage near Shanghai. Willie has travelled to China twice before but it will be the first time for me. We are looking forward to this exciting trip and are spending so much of our time preparing ourselves and Ashley and Emma for this big event! Willie is also spending some free time trying to learn Mandarin from his parents. So far he has taught our girls "big" and "small" in Mandarin so we will at least be able to get the correct size coffee there!

We would just like to pass on our sincere thanks to all of our friends and families who have shared in our excitement and who call us almost daily to see if we have received our referral yet. Our new daughter will be truly blessed with such a wonderful family to love her.

Our first group referral has come in! Willie and Vanessa's file was expedited and they are now very pleased to announce their newest addition... Kuo-Sing! See our referral page for more info.

UPDATE! Katie comes home!

Hi Everyone.

We just wanted to let everyone know we have returned home with our wonderful new daughter - Katie. Everything went very smoothly and we are so very glad to be back home. Katie is a very happy and active (walking and climbing up stairs) little bundle of energy. She was living in a great foster home and we had the opportunity to meet her foster father. She was obviously very well cared for there, and we were even given a small photo album of photos of her and her foster family. We are hoping to stay in touch with them. Ashley and Emma are of course very attentive big sisters and so far are enjoying their little sister very much.

For now we are just trying to get a one year old over jet lag which is quite a job but we are making some progress and are all doing very well. We have attached a few photos (see below) of our trip and homecoming. Season's Greetings to all!!
