A Haunted Halloween in Brampton, Ontario Spooky music echos down the street as weird lights play across moldering tombstones. Spider webs dangle from overhead trees ready to catch unwitting prey. Lightning flashes across the sky just as an unholy scream rends the night. Werewolves howl as other darker terrors lurk among the shadows. Trick-or-treaters beware! I've been into Halloween my whole life (my last official Halloween as a TOT my friend and I went out as Lepers - just a hint of things to come) but I am relatively new to the whole Haunt scene. It started with a few store-bought decorations and dressing up in costume to jump out at the kids when they came to the door. Later we took the haunt to the front lawn and this was so much more fun - you got to interact with the kids more and could see their reactions better. Things kicked into high-gear in 2004 with the creation of my Uruk-Hai costume from Lord of the Rings and then in 2005 with tombstones and other props. Every year the plans are even bigger and better. Word has spread among the neighbourhood kids and they really look forward to coming to our house Halloween night. If you're in the area, stop by - everyone's welcome!
Website Re-design! If you're a repeat visitor you'll notice right away that I've tweaked the design/navigation of the website. This was mainly due to a glitch in the menu on certain browsers that I wasn't able to figure out so I just changed it around to what works. The new design, while nothing major, does allow me to add new pages and sections easily. Two new sections are Downloads and Media. These sections are starting off small but will be added to as time goes by. A Long Overdue Update
So here it is well into 2010 with Halloween approaching and I still haven't updated the site with any pictures from Halloween 2009. I've now recitified that and added or updated several tutorials. My hope is with the re-design of the site it will be a bit easier in the future to keep on top of any updates. New Props for 2009 and looking ahead to 2010! Last year I focusing on finishing/fixing past projects rather than starting new ones. That said I did end up working on a few new props. I built a proper monument for the angel stature to hide the vortex fog chiller along with other tombstones of course. I'm also in the process of re-working the front porch as a witch's lair with the first step being witch's shelves and potions. For 2010 I started the build season by entering the Haunt Forum $20 Prop Contest. I made a H.P.Lovecraft tombstone complete with tentacles and was very pleased to come in 2nd by an extremely narrow margin. I'm also finishing the front porch witch scene with a large cauldron - my brother will play the witch this year wearing the great Cackle mask from Darkside Studios. He should get more than a few scares! I'm also bound & determined to finally finish the cemetery fence I'm been putting it off for some time now. I'll be adding these and other projects to the website as I finish them.
