  MUSEUMS & SOCIETIES:

  • The Kettle Valley Railway Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that exists to preserve an important piece of our country's history. The Kettle Valley Steam Railway in Summerland offers a unique ninety-minute journey over the last remaining ten-kilometre section of the original KVR line constructed between 1910 and 1916. Powered by a 1924 Shay steam locomotive pulling two 1950's passenger coaches and the "Kettle Kar" (open-air) the train travels along hillsides overlooking beautiful Okanagan orchards and vineyards starting at the magnificent Trout Creek Bridge which spans the canyon at 238 feet above the water.

Check out the Society's webpage for current schedule and fare info.

Membership in the Society is open to individuals ($25), families ($35), non- profit organizations ($35) and corporate or business organizations ($50). Members receive our quarterly news- letter, The KVR Times, a Membership Card which entitles Members to a 10% discount in our Gift Shop, voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting (in April) and an invitation to the annual Members' Appreciation Day which allows members and their families half- price fares and other special treats.

Support for the Kettle Valley Steam Railway may also be given through:

    • The Save It By The Foot Program: a $30 per foot donation will go towards the on-going restoration of the Railway. A tax-deductible receipt is issued.

    • The Cross-Tie Program: a $50 donation per tie supports the future maintenance and extension of the track. A tax-deductible receipt is issued.

    • The Volunteer Program: Lots of help is needed to run a train! There are many different volunteer opportunities. Please call the office if you are interested.
